Keywords:
international crisis; international crisis management; dynamics of international crises; learning from international crises.Abstract
This article examines the multiplicity of definitions of international crises and the differences among scholars in identifying their constituent elements. It does so within an inquiry into the significance of crisis in international interactions. The article addresses the main aspects associated with international crises. It begins with detecting indicators of their emergence and anticipating possible developments. It then examines their nature, elements, and dynamics. It also considers how crises can be managed, how the risk of escalation can be reduced, how they can be brought to an end, and what lessons can be drawn from them. The article aims to contribute to the cumulative theoretical and applied knowledge on international crises. This can improve understanding of their different stages and dynamics, support the development of more appropriate approaches to managing them, and facilitate the use of lessons learned to prepare for subsequent crises and reduce their effects and repercussions.
